No Text A £20,000 grant from the People’s Postcode Lottery has enabled Autism East Midlands to launch its new campaign, Autism Can!

Autism Can! provides work-related activities tailored to 200 adults who have autism and complex needs. Opportunities include those in horticulture, art and design and catering. Autism Can! will provide short work tasters, starting at 15 minutes for those with the most complex needs, with the end goal of progression towards a vocational qualification and employment within partner social enterprises.

The grant will be spent on purchasing a variety of equipment, products, and supplies to enable a varied scheme of projects to run across Autism East Midlands flexible day service centres across the county.

This project will encourage progress towards independence and employment. The project arose through requests from service users who had an interest in understanding employment and progressing towards independence.

Founded in 1968, Autism East Midlands is the largest autism charity in the region. James Jenning’s of Autism East Midlands Enterprise said: "People's Postcode Lottery grant will make a massive difference to Autism East Midlands' commitment to improving the quality of life for people with autism.  We will now be able to create workplaces and therapeutic work activity in horticulture and art and design, which will allow service users to develop workplace skills and experience, helping them on their way towards independence."
