Gorvins Solicitors Caring Week
Friday, 8 Jan 2016
Stockport’s leading law firm, Gorvins Solicitors, will be teaming up with other local experts to offer free help and advice for both carers of the elderly and young disabled adults.
The firm will also be focusing on how carers can plan for their dependent’s future as part of Gorvins’ Caring Week, which runs during the first week in March.
Following last year’s highly successful initiative, Gorvins Caring Week will once again be looking at ways to help carers, their dependents and family through accessing the right support and information.
On March 1, in partnership with St Ann’s Hospice, there will be a ‘Coffee, Cake & Caring’ day from 10am - 4pm, which will focus on the subject of planning for later life. Sessions will take place on personal budgets and financial advice, wills and lasting powers of attorney and practical, social and community care (there will also be a fine selection of cakes, teas and coffee!) Specialists on hand to offer advice include representatives from Craven Slater Independent Financial Adviser, Home Instead Senior Care, caring benefits expert Lorraine Podmore-Richardson, the Greater Manchester Fire and Police services and Stockport Council.
Later that week, the Carers of Young Adults with a Disability session, in conjunction with Independent Options, will take place between 6-8pm on Thursday 3rd March. This specialist event will offer advice on how to access the right information from groups such as Stockport Advocacy. Key topics will include financial advice and managing budgets, practical care, helping your young adult to gain more independence and planning for your future from a legal perspective.
Mike Smoult, Senior Associate in Gorvins’ Wills, Trusts and Probate team, said: “This is the second year we have now run Gorvins Caring Week after a successful first year in March 2015. Our aim is to educate as many parents and carers of young adults with a unique event involving some of the main caring organisations of Stockport under one roof.
He said: “It will give visitors a rare overview of the depth and breadth of service provision and the opportunity to talk one to one about specific circumstances.”
Jo Burton of St Ann’s Hospice added, “We’re delighted that Gorvins Solicitors have chosen St Ann’s Hospice as their partner for their caring event this March.
She continued, “It is really important for people to understand the issues affecting carers and the care options available, including hospice care, and it’s fantastic that Gorvins is helping local people by organising this event.”
Lucy Sawdon, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at Independent Options, agreed. She said: “We’re thrilled to be partnered up with Gorvins for such a fantastic event. What a business can offer in terms of knowledge and expertise is just as important as making a financial contribution to a charity.
“This is a unique opportunity for carers to tap into with the support in the Stockport area for people with a disability.”
In partnership with St Ann's Hospice and Independence Options, Gorvins Solicitors will be hosting free events on the 1st and 3rd of March 2016. The events aim to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face, recognise the contributions they make to families and communities in the North West and give carers access to the advice and support they need from the organisation who help them including:
